Capacity building workshop

In November 2017 the GCF held a capacity building workshop to equip the members of the GCF with standard proposal writing skills to help them properly author proposals to solicit for funds in support of their various projects. This workshop engaged Mr Kwamena Ackom-Mensah, a media consultant, as the special resource person with support from Rev Fiifi Khan Agyarkwah of blessed memory and the GCF’s Grants Committee members. An important aspect of the workshop was the presentation of the outline of the Ghana Culture Funding Scheme (GCFS). Participants of the workshop were taken through the various requirements and the application guidelines of the funding scheme of the GCF. The Grants Committee also shared their experiences, observations and reflections on the Funding Process and Fund Applications. Members who had been awarded grants in the past too were given ear as they shared their experiences and thoughts on the application processes.
Also, when the 2019 budget was delivered by Minister of Finance, Honourable Ken Ofori-Atta, the GCF thought it wise to convene on the matters of the budget. A stakeholder forum was convened on the “Meaning of the 2019 Budget and Taxation Regime for the Creative Sector” on November 21, 2018, at the National Theatre of Ghana. It was attended by over 150 participants from the creative sector and other spheres of life. Background presentations were delivered by specials guests - Dr Nii Moi Thompson, an economist and former Director General of the National Development Planning Commission of Ghana, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Mrs Catherine Abelema Afeku (MP), and the Chief Revenue Officer, Training and Development Department of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Mr Dominic Dokbilla Naab. The presentations by these dignitaries carved the path for the forum. Nana Fredua-Agyeman Ofori-Atta, Board Chairman of the National Theatre of Ghana was the discussant and moderated an animated discussion of the presentations given on the day.
