Ghana Culture Forum (GCF) recently held an engagement meeting with the Pan-African Youth Orchestra (PAYO) at Labone Coffee Shop as part of its ongoing stakeholder engagements within Ghana’s cultural and creative arts sector.
PAYO was represented by Henry Paa Kwesi Holdbrook-Smith and Mawutor M. Deyegbe (Administrator), while GCF was represented by its Chairperson, Nana Achaempong, General Secretary, Edwina Assan, and National Service Personnel, Afua Konadu Owusu Ababio.
The meeting provided an opportunity for PAYO to share its background, vision, and activities. PAYO is a youth-focused orchestra dedicated to exploring the classical foundations of African music through the orchestral use of indigenous African instruments drawn from diverse regions of the continent. The orchestra promotes cultural education, discipline, national integration, and Pan-African unity through music.
PAYO works with children and young people aged 6 to 18 years, offering structured training, workshops, performances, and educational programmes. Over the years, the orchestra has performed at various local and international events and continues to play a key role in African music education and performance.
