Member's Bio
The Ghana Academy of Film and Television Arts (GAFTA) is the umbrella professional body representing practitioners and stakeholders in Ghana’s motion picture industry. It comprises ten constituent guilds and associations, namely: the Directors Guild, Cinematographers Guild, Screenwriters Guild, Editors Guild, Producers Guild, Film and Television Facilitators Guild, Film Sound Guild, New Media Guild, Animation Guild, and Art Direction Guild.
GAFTA was established in 2001 in response to the decline in professional standards that followed the divestiture of the Ghana Film Industry Corporation (GFIC) in 1996. Recognising the urgent need to restore excellence, strengthen professional practice, and advance the development of Ghana’s film and television industry, the Academy was founded to provide leadership, professional training, industry advocacy, and capacity building for practitioners.
